Despite his imposing appearance and reputation for invincibility, Sunfyre suffered a catastrophic defeat early in the conflict. During a confrontation with the dragons of House Velaryon, specifically Seasmoke and Arrax, he was grievously wounded by harpoons and arrows. The injuries were so severe that they stripped him of much of his flight capability and left him vulnerable to further attacks. This event marked a turning point, transforming the Golden Dragon from an unstoppable force into a symbol of tragedy and loss for the Black faction.
